1. Jurassic Forest Loop

4km south of Ohaupo on SH3
Explore an 18,000 year old peat lake and a seemingly prehistoric Jurassic Forest. This adventure is part of the Toyota Kiwi Guardians promotion and has nine interactive activity stations dotted around the lake. Play eels and ladders, mudfish scrabble or look for the world’s skinniest caterpillar.
2. Tamahere Reserve

Parking on Tauwhare Road opposite Woodcock Road
For 30 years, this rare remnant of Waikato lowland swamp forest was a neglected wasteland. But today this hidden gem has 300 metres of boardwalk meandering alongside Mangaone Stream. Gawk at the 400 year old trees and let the kids loose within this community restoration project.
3. Waireinga/Bridal Veil Falls
TE UKU | 1 HOUR
Turn onto Te Mata Road after Te Uku on SH23. Follow signs.
An island forest with mystical fairies surrounded by lush farmland and a dramatic waterfall in its midst. An easy 10 minute stroll through native trees and mature nikau trees beside the meandering Pakoka River takes you to the top of the 55 m falls. But don’t just loiter at the two top viewing platforms. Make the trek to the bottom!
