Lake Ngaroto | Near Te Awamutu

This flat walk loops around the largest peat lake in the Waipa District. Interesting signage along the way gives everyone the perfect excuse to stop and have a breather, while learning about the lake’s ecology. The path was upgraded in 2016 and now includes more than 2km of boardwalk. From SH3 turn onto Ngaroto Road then right onto Paterangi Road, then right again onto Bank Road. Plenty of parking. Toilets available.

Time: Allow 60 min (5.7km) to complete the loop.
Accessibility:  Well graded paths suitable for buggies and bikes.
Dogs: Dogs on leads.

Lake Te Ko Utu | Cambridge

Tucked below the bustling township of Cambridge, this lake is buggy (and pooch) friendly. Mature trees provide shade cover for most of the loop and numerous tracks head off the main loop. There are BBQ facilities, toilet and loads of green space beside the car park. No bikes allowed on this adventure.  Parking is available at the main entrance off Albert Street.

Time: The loop is just over 1km so allow 30 to 45 min for a casual meander.
Accessibility: Wide paths that are ideal for buggies.
Dogs: Dogs on leads.
